Living on the fringe of the picturesque Kettle Moraine in southeastern Wisconsin has influenced my painting style, and inspires me to document these subjects through expressionistic paintings. The subjects of my paintings are the consequential and inconsequential things in daily life that are seldom noticed. Things as simple as the grasses of the fields, or the endless forms and shapes of different trees that surround me causes me to focus on the multitude of colors that delineate these forms and shapes.

I live in color and color is all-important to me. I create these paintings by studying the patterns of light and shadow of my subjects and then, exaggerate the shapes, colors, and intensity of values until it becomes a finished piece. This type of thinking leads me to a deeper more emotional way of talking about my art, which has taken me into abstract painting.

Although these abstract paintings are direct reflections of my own emotions and feelings, this style of painting also allows the viewer to draw their own interpretation of the subject. I strive to create art that encourages this type of interaction so the viewer can project themselves into the artwork, they become part of the creative process and the painting can then reflect their individuality as well as mine.

I am a classically trained artist with experience in many mediums; however, I prefer to paint with oils because of the fluidity of the medium. The viscosity of the paint allows me to create thick lush colors with lots of texture or thin semi-transparent glazes that bring out the depth of color. I use brushes, palette knives, and even found objects to apply the paint, which allows me to create depth and dimension. I find the tool that affords me the ability to empress all my emotions.

I consider my studio my personal sanctuary, a place at peace. I lose all my inhibitions there. I do not allow any interference to interrupt me. I usually have images flooding my mind all the time so I am constantly paying attention and observing the environment around me, thus my paintings are
